Hungary, City Tours in Eastern Europe

Sunday, August 19, 2007, I traveled to Budapest, the country I had never visited at all before, had never even dreamed, given the distance is so far away from Jakarta, approximately 15 hours 35 minutes away if not calculated by the average waiting time for transit . Travel to Budapest can be through many channels in accordance with the chosen airline scenario, but the scenario seems Lufthansa is one of the most simple scenario, where only the transit of 2 (two) times, in Singapore and Frankfurt.

The journey started from Jakarta (Soekarno Hatta Gate 2D, 190 807, 18:50 pm, LH 779 Lufthansa Airways) to Singapore (190 807, 21:35, 1 hour 45 minutes journey), and to then continue the trip to Frankfurt (190 807, 23:05, same plane) after waiting for about 1.5 hours at Changi Airport and arrive at Frankfurt Airport, Germany (200 807, 5:25) after a journey for 12 hours and 20 minutes of pretty boring. After waiting 2 hours 15 minutes at Frankfurt airport, then promptly at 7:40 uses Airways Lufthansa LH3440 I continued through to the final destination of Budapest, for 1.5 hours and arrived at the destination at 9:10 in the morning.

Upon arriving at the airport, the atmosphere with low humidity compared to Indonesia, which almost reaches 100%, making a fundamental difference with the new environment that I feel. Luckily, our colleagues there have been waiting at the airport door, and then promptly drove us by taxi to the apartment where we would stay for 25 days in Budapest, a vast land area is only comparable Kutai district, East Kalimantan (exactly 93 090 km2).

On this occasion, I wanted to share some kindness that I can collect while that may be useful for us together.

City Order

Hungary, which had ruled Turkey between the years 1526 - 1686, has the order of the city that really shows the seriousness of the government in managing an integrated area that combines all positive values into an area that became a tourist place eye-catching. Hungary has a capital city named Budapest, which is a mix between the Buda and Pest are separated by the River Danube (Duna), renowned as the longest river in the European Union, and the second longest after the Volga River.

In a country that used very strong communist ideology, which is the new Communist Empire collapsed in 1989 along with the fall of the Soviet Union, does not look that tall buildings over 10 floors, especially in the area of Budapest. One reason is to preserve historic buildings and architectural image of a typical European high, so as to attract foreign tourists to come to a country that is beginning to develop this.

In the cities of Buda and Pest are also not found in the gutter, because the channel has been prepared with boiled water under the road. We also can drink water that is channeled into the apartments directly from tap water, here we can easily enjoy cooking gas flow directly into kitchen apartment.

Visitor attractions in Hungary is very respected and maintained with very, very good, although it is actually very simple when compared to Indonesia. Slightest attractions will be made as attractive as possible so that the attraction of tourists to force stepped in there. One example, a tourist place in Visegrad, which is a tourist attraction for those who want to feel the mountain air, actually there is nothing to see, even a waterfall they say, is actually just a small water flow. But although the road to get there pretty far, there we can enjoy an open train to reach the top, and then after the summit, visitors can only walk sepanjan 3-4 km down to the bottom again, and under enjoy fresh fish.

Landfills located in the city streets with containers which have to distinguish between waste paper, glass, and plastic.

Transportation

Speaking of transportation, Hungary seems very indulgent citizens with a variety of transportation options ranging from subways, the underground railway, urban electric railway, electric railway along the river, and the electric city buses. Each user must purchase advance tickets before boarding the vehicle, and periodically conducted Sidak or checks by officers. What makes me personally salute the compliance of each user's vehicle, where no one did not read the ticket, though not necessarily checked by the officers, and consciously self-perform the registration card in the machines installed in the bus, without having to be reminded. Second, I saw how transportation officials are not too tight in the workforce, in the sense of allowing the homeless bum who is not obliged to buy a ticket to use this transportation.

Public transport here, also does not use fossil fuels directly, but utilize electrical grid is attached, with a battery as its backup. Time is respected, and never found the means of transport in transit for a while just to wait for passengers, but have stopped a fixed standard. Even more easy is that availability of following the road map guides guide transportation is very clear, so that even beginners can easily get around Hungary with only guided by a piece of the map.

Using the taxi should not be arbitrary, and is not recommended to terminate the ongoing taxi wherever we are. However, advisable to call the taxi company to pick us famous. With a variety of different cars, then we also can choose a taxi with seats for 6 people, so can be more efficient.

Government Services

Taxes in this country is high enough so about 60% of income per month. However, treatment in this country is very cheap, around Rp 15rb for all consultations and Rp 30rb for hospitalization. For pregnant women were highly serviced, which we would call the hospital stay, and they will offer when to give birth and when to be picked up. After delivery, the officer of the doctors would come home with routine immunization during the first 6 months without hoping for reward, and after 6 months are encouraged to visit the nearest doctor.

Spiritual nuances

The majority of the population of Hungary is a Christian, especially Roman Catholic, which reached more than half the population. As Islam is very little, although the country had mastered the Turkish Empire before, and although currently very much at all restaurants Torook (Turkey), which became the label for kosher food in Hungary. Searching mosques in this country, quite difficult. There is a mosque which is only open during Friday only, and there are renting a location to be opened as a mosque at any time, with the priests from Yemen, Afghanistan, and others. Turkish youth, many who learn languages in Bosnia, and then continue their education at university level in Hungary.

Although Catholicism is the largest religion in Hungary, from some of my acquaintances and colleagues, I conclude that at least two generations of Catholics have made just a mere symbol, because the last two generations as the generation that no longer obey the style of Catholic worship, nor teach their children to close to the church, so that discussions about religion with their very interesting and quite open. Without the guidance of religion, it became commonplace to see the behavior of young people here are very independent and free sex is the thing that legalized with various amenities, such as sex shops and sex interactive exhibits. But interestingly, the population declined lately as many young people who prefer to stay in the same house rather than getting married and raising a family. The churches are often empty and become a mere tourist attractions, or places of worship for the old people only.

The food becomes an interesting thing here, because so are manifold, and if we eat at a restaurant, then we must be ready with an appetizer, core, and cover a fairly redundant according to our custom in Indonesia. No wonder so many found in the population is overweight, while a high number of smokers either, especially among women who reach 50 percent more.

Hungary population includes a very obey traffic laws. Rarely heard a car horn that sounds, but once I've heard in the rainy season. At one point, the car I was riding colleagues who provided the road by another car to use the road ahead, and soon, our cars speeding up the course. The reason motorists are feeling bad for those who have been giving way, worried that waiting too long.
